This is the resurrection of a thread I started on the old forum. Just want to see if anyone's choices have changed & want to see some thoughts from folks who might not have posted in the thread on the old forum.

Which combination of characters first comes to mind when you think "The X-Men"? And why those characters?

For me:

Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Peter, Nightcrawler, and Kitty, as written by Chris Claremont in the early '80s. This is the core team I grew up with, and to me, the group dynamic is perfect: Kitty is still pretty green, and plays a great "everyman" character, giving the reader someone to identify with as we get to know this collection of strange, super-powered misfits. Wolverine: The Badass. Storm: The enigmatic, untouchable beauty who can kick your ass but would sacrifice everything for her friends. Kurt: The scary-looking dude with the heart of gold who personifies the saying "You can't judge a book by its cover". Peter: The gentle giant with an artist's soul. And Cyclops: The stoic, stable leader with the integrity & courage to hold the whole mess together.

Those are the characters who spring to mind when I think "X-Men". How about you?

when i first think i xmen its always Scott, Jean, Bobbie and Kitty, probably because they are my all time faves, I guess i like the vanilla characters the most. As far as newer characters X-23, she's just a cool alternative to wolverine. I'm getting into Domino, she's fairly new to me since i started reading again but she has bad ass potential. Last but not least Sage, i think her power is super cool and reminds me of a character from trilogy I read when i was younger called Hex that i really liked.

I got in during the Outback Era. Having gone back to the older stuff, I now realize how much of a shakeup that was. I pretty much love the "classic" team of Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Kitty. I also enjoyed when Rachel was added. I also really dug the Morrison Era team. So if I were to choose a current roster for a mainline X-book, I'd go with Cyclops, Emma Frost, Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde, Rachel, and Beast,

That's a cool line-up. :) For the longest time, I just couldn't get into Ice Man. But he's grown on me over the years. And X-23 is one of the most interesting characters they've introduced to the mutant line-up in a long time. :)

Cool. :) Emma's addition to the team took place during my x-men hiatus, so it threw me for a loop when I started Whedon's Astonishing. I was like "Why is the White Queen hanging with the X-Men? And when did she start doing Scott?" :o But the weird thing is, adding her to the mix of Whedon's team somehow made it feel a lot like the Claremont post-Dark Phoenix team, and I mean in a good way. And Rachel is just plain AWESOME. The alternate universe/mutant-hunting dog storyline that introduced her is one of my all-time favorite runs in Uncanny. :)

This is a good question bud....

I'd have to say Cyclops, Beast, Wolverine, Jean, Bishop, Ice Man, Blue skinned Archangel, Forge and of course Professor X in Shiar Golden Hover-round..........a combination of the mutant genesis blue and gold teams.....these are the ones that always come to mind for me.....this right about when I started reading....around Uncanny 270 or so. I miss the seperate strike teams....it was a cool idea....more straightforward than now with everyone crossing over the books.

Definitive X-Men team: Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Wolverine, Gambit, Jubilee, Storm, Rogue

If I made up my own X-Men team: Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Wolverine, Gambit, Jubilee

I got into the X-Men through the cartoon, and that team will always be THE X-Men to me. But I don't much care for Rogue or Storm, so they can leave.

Hmmm... I can't tell if you're joking or serious. :| The only characters I'm familiar with from that lineup are Jean, Dazzler and Northstar.

Cool. :) The cartoon definitely influenced my view of the X-Men as well. That theme song always trumps the movie theme when I think "X-Men music."

I miss Bishop. :( The character has a lot of potential if handled properly. Whatever happened to him, anyway? Last I heard, he was turned into a bad guy & was being hunted by Cable.

I was joking. This was the team for the eve of destruction event. The members most people have never heard of have not been seen since.

LOL Gotcha, man. :) Speaking of obscure, anyone remember this line-up?

Maggot, Marrow, Dr. Reyes...

I remember thinking I was witnessing a landmark event; the introduction of a NEW team of X-Men, ala Giant Sized X-Men. Man; was I WRONG.

Yeah that wasn't a great time in the X-men run.

At least Cecilia is making a comeback, and their has been some chatter about bringing back Maggot too.

Never mind that shit though. Remember Storm's hairstyle back then? The neck length cut with the tusk bangs? Why is that not more common nowadays?

I always go back to the line up that was around when I first started reading the X-Men way back in 1986:
Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Rogue, Colossus, and Phoenix II.

Man...Kelly and Seagle could've been great on the X books. Editorial control was really out of hand back then. The books had top notch creators, but they just weren't allowed to do their thing. To me that's the What Could Have Been era.

I enjoyed that lineup. Wasn't that back when Scott, Iceman, and Jean were doing the X-Force thing?

:) I dig her with any hairstyle, except the mohawk. I wasn't a fan of leather-dominatrix-mohawk storm.

What kind of things were you hoping for?

That was back when they were on X-Factor.

My team is Wolverine and Storm. To me, those are the meat and potatoes, and anyone else is just gravy. Cyclops is pretty essential too, because I love to hate that guy. He's the Biff Tannen of the X-men, and you can't have a Back to the Future movie without that butt-head. And what Cyclops is to Wolverine, Emma Frost is to Storm. I love to see those pairs at odds with each other. Any character that has a special dynamic with Wolverine and Storm, is worth putting on my team, so that would include Nightcrawler, Colossus, Jean, Kitty, Gambit and Psylock. I'm also a big fan of Cable and Deadpool.

If I had to pick a favourite era it would be early 90's Jim Lee, but I have to say the current X-force line-up is pretty close to that. Kurt Darkholme is more badass than Kurt Wagner. He was my favourite character in AoA, and the last time I cared that much about Nightcrawler was my original introduction to the X-men, with the arcade game. My dream team is Wolverine, Storm, Deadpool, Cable, Gambit, AoA Nightcrawler, Phoenix, and Psylock. I tolerate the characters that aren't particularly bad-ass, but if I had my way, it would be bad-ass all the way. I would pit them against Cyclops, Emma, Collosonaut, Magneto, Sabertooth and Mystique, and maybe then have them team-up against Apocalypse.

If we're doing dream teams, then mine is as follows:

Magneto, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Iceman, Marrow, Pixie, and Mimic.

I've got a nice alternate reality fan fic about this particular team. It's similar to AOA in that is set in a post-apocalyptic world and that the surviving X-Men are all badasses.
